- 6th National Symposium on Women and mental health & Perinatal Psychiatry was held on 11th December 2022 at GMCH-32. The symposium was organised by Department of Psychiatry, GMCH-32 under the banner of Indian Psychiatric Society(IPS) in association with Parivartan. The symposium was inaugurated by the chief guest Director Principal Dr. Jasbinder Kaur , Prof & Head Dr. Priti Arun along with the dignitaries from IPS. The symposium consisted of a series of lectures, first of which was delivered by the pioneer of perinatal psychiatry Dr. Prabha Chandra. She introduced the audience with the theme of the symposium and also shed light upon the gender discrimination and patriarchy faced by the Indian women, which plays a role in their access to mental health services. The lecture delivered by Dr. Shobit Garg made the audience aware of the new neuromodulation techniques which might play a vital role in the treatment of mental disorders in women especially during the perinatal period. The symposium also included a series of lectures on parenting skills, role of oestrogen and suicide in women in India. The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ruksheda Syeda and Prof.& Head Dr. Priti Arun.
